Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS (ROSA) Positions OpenShift for Mainstream Adoption

Kubernetes has become the de facto standard across public cloud providers for container orchestration and management. In turn, Red Hat OpenShift is the leading enterprise platform for accessing Kubernetes through a hybrid cloud deployment model, providing a ubiquitous deployment across on-premises, hybrid, or cloud deployments.

Until recently, customers who wanted to access OpenShift’s benefits were required to purchase and consume support subscriptions on an annual basis. As a Red Hat Apex Partner, Vizuri has seen the challenges of this approach firsthand. CIOs will share that this model can be challenging for their budgeting cycle, as it limits their ability to test and incrementally scale their OpenShift deployments.

With the release of the Red Hat OpenShift Service on Amazon (ROSA), AWS offers consumption of OpenShift with pay-as-you-go hourly and annual billing, a 99.95% SLA, and joint support from AWS and Red Hat. As a AWS Consulting Partner and long-time Red Hat partner, we see tremendous potential for this offering.

Red Hat Accelerated Migration Program (RAMP)

To complement the ROSA announcement, AWS established an accelerated migration program for Red Hat customers to speed their migration to the cloud. It provides up to a 25% discount on your first year’s annual recurring revenue (ARR) to be applied as a compute and services subsidy to provide additional cost savings in your migration to the cloud.

ROSA and RAMP offerings can be combined for greater value or can be consumed separately. Together, they make it easier to migrate systems, make them easier to manage, while focusing on deploying applications and accelerating innovation by moving the cluster lifecycle management to Red Hat and AWS.

Industry Solutions for Insurance

ROSA represents a major and needed shift in consumption models that aligns with how customers are used to provisioning and consuming their public cloud infrastructure. As one example, we have seen this first-hand in our work with the insurance sector.

Our AcceleRate Platform provides a framework of reference architectures, best practices, and cloud-native designs for insurance companies. We help customers streamline the modernization of CORE systems for Property and Casualty, Life, Health, and Commercial business lines, using Red Hat and AWS technologies that enable insurers to make decisions quicker and in accordance with organizational standards. AcceleRate can run on any consumption model but thrives with ROSA with rules-as-a-microservice and supports a “scale-to-zero” architecture.

Among midsized insurers, a 2021 survey identified that utilizing a cloud provider for growth and process optimization were key priorities for CIOs. Leveraging a public cloud provider coupled with ROSA or RAMP allows their infrastructure and compute costs to be set up to deliver value as they migrate to the efficiencies associated with containers, microservices, and the integration of Insurtech offerings in a cloud-native design.
